ĢƵ is pleased to announce that professor of theological studies, Dr. Kelly M. Kapic (PhD, King’s College London), has been named the college’s first honorary chair of theology and culture. Due to generous donor support, Dr. Kapic will be devoting one-third of his time to research, writing, and speaking, while two thirds will be devoted to teaching at ĢƵ. Following a sabbatical during the 2026–2027 academic year, Dr. Kapic will spend the subsequent two years teaching full time, continuing this pattern until his retirement.

“Dr. Kapic is a much beloved professor at ĢƵ, where he has taught faithfully since 2001,” states Dr. Collin Messer, vice president of academic affairs. “For almost twenty-five years, Kapic has poured himself into the ĢƵ community, being a highly regarded classroom teacher, a significant faculty voice, and someone who has done much behind the scenes for our institution.”

Dr. Kapic is the award-winning author and editor of numerous books, including You’re Only Human: How Your Limits Reflect God’s Design and Why That’s Good News (Brazos, 2022), Embodied Hope: A Theological Meditation on Pain and Suffering (IVP Academic, 2017), and his newest release, You Were Never Meant to Do It All: A 40-Day Devotional on the Goodness of Being Human (Brazos, 2025). Dr. Kapic also contributes to popular magazines like Christianity Today as well as academic journals, such as the International Journal of Systematic Theology, Westminster Theological Journal, and Journal of Spiritual Formation & Soul Care

Supported by groups like The John Templeton Foundation, Dr. Kapic has collaborated with psychologists, theologians, and philosophers on international research projects exploring topics such as grace, suffering, and the practice of lament and regularly speaks at churches, universities, and conferences in the United States and around the world.

“As an agency of the Church for the Church, ĢƵ seeks to help the church navigate this intersection of faith and life—of theology and culture—and Kelly is uniquely gifted to help us in this work,” states college president, Dr. Brad Voyles. “Kelly already has an incredible track record of serving the Church and the World. I’m so grateful for his partnership and the generous donor support that will continue to make this possible going forward.”

“I believe ĢƵ’s mission is more important now than it's ever been in terms of being faithful to God and His word,” says Dr. Kapic. “What we're doing here is so unique. The faculty are amazing, and the students are so open and interested in wrestling with hard ideas and how to think and live faithfully in the midst of a complex world. I just can't think of a place I'd rather be, and I'm so thankful to administrators, colleagues, and donors who have helped shape me and made this next season possible.”
