How ĢƵ Prepares Students for Grad School

ĢƵ equips students to succeed in various pursuits after they graduate, and for some, that means continuing their education in graduate school. Hear from some of our alumni about how ĢƵ prepared them for this journey.

“The rigor of the courses at ĢƵ combined with the quality of the instructors prepared me to excel in both my professional and academic careers. The accounting courses that I took went a long way in helping me pass the CPA exam, more so than the graduate classes I took. The economics classes helped me understand the required concepts and features of the discipline that I needed for graduate schooling. Finally, the faculty helped me, and continue to help me, tremendously. Not only have they helped me land jobs and get into graduate schools, but the examples they set and the advice they gave has been paramount to my performance.”

“Completing my master’s degree while balancing my teaching responsibilities has been a testament to God’s provision. ĢƵ's coursework, faculty, and overall community were also instrumental in preparing me. The curriculum was thoughtfully designed to challenge me academically while encouraging me to integrate my faith into my learning. Courses in child development and education theory provided me with a strong foundation, and the ĢƵ faculty were incredibly supportive and accessible, often going beyond traditional teaching to invest in students’ personal and professional growth. They provided mentorship, offered valuable insights into the field of education, and challenged me to pursue my passion for teaching.”

“Without a doubt, I learned to write and think clearly at ĢƵ, skills which remain relevant in any field, but certainly in academia. My degree in community development might seem tangential to what I do now, but in fact I'm constantly amazed at how much what I learned from my ĢƵ professors continues to inform my work. In particular, ĢƵ classes on culture and cultural differences, methods for anthropological study, and even my economics courses keep bearing fruit for my current work.”

“ĢƵ undoubtedly shaped who I am today. Without ĢƵ, I am confident I would not have completed my PhD nor fully comprehended the degree to which my undergraduate education could further my understanding of God. ĢƵ instilled in me a sort of intellectual humility in an environment that encouraged us to embrace open-mindedness when considering a plurality of ideas. I cannot emphasize enough the degree to which ĢƵ coursework, faculty, and community prepared me for grad school. My ĢƵ education has more than prepared me for my career after graduation.”
Morgan (Barney) Calhoun ’18
PhD in Political Science and International Affairs, University of Georgia

“After graduating from ĢƵ, I certainly had the fundamental understanding of how the body works and scientific methods required as a foundation for medical school. However, I was most thankful for how ĢƵ helped me see the beauty and value of individuals and the importance of not losing that in the day-to-day pressures of healthcare. ĢƵ really made clear to me how imperative compassion is. Now as I interact with people who are disadvantaged or have been beaten up by life, I find myself more compassionate than before. I daily aspire to reflect Jesus’ love for the whole person and recognition of how stories and systems affect their lives; these goals are directly influenced by my ĢƵ education.”
